Help us rebuild the heart of our harbour
Tinopai · Kaipara Harbour

Te Pae Pūtahi

Where whānau, water, and whenua meet.

A community-led trust caring for the people, the wharf and the whenua of Tinopai — one of the Kaipara's last unspoiled corners.

About the Trust

Established in 2026, the Trust grew out of a simple idea — that a small village on the Kaipara should have a single, clear voice for the things its people care about.

One village, one voice — looking after the place we all call home.

The Tinopai Community Trust (TCT) is the unified voice of our village — an incorporated trust board that turns local energy into lasting results for the residents and manuhiri of Tinopai.

We are community-led, community-run, and here for everyone: from our youngest tamariki to our older community. We work alongside local partners, iwi, and regional authorities to ensure Tinopai remains a thriving, connected heart of the Kaipara district.

“I am a part of the Tinopai Community Trust because I believe in continuing the legacy of my mum, who always believed that every child, no matter where they live, rural or otherwise, deserves equal opportunities. She believed everybody deserves to feel like they have a space, a place, and a sense of belonging here in Tinopai. Being part of the Trust is my way of giving back to the community that shaped me and helping create opportunities for future generations.”

“I got involved because I could see Tinopai was missing out on regional and national funding — It's a special place, and I want to help our community thrive”

You spoke — we listened

The 2026 community survey told us exactly what to build next.

85
residents responded — a powerful sample for a village our size.
35%
of our whole community took the time to share their views.
88%
support a community pantry — an idea we are now building.
3.8/5
connectedness score — above-average potential, just needs unlocking.

You told us our rangatahi need more to do. You told us you want a place to gather, share kai and look after each other. That's exactly what we're building. — He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.

What we're building

Three projects, one Tinopai.

The Tinopai
Community Hub

A warm room that belongs to everyone

We are transforming part of the community hall into a vibrant connection hub — a warm, welcoming space with a community pantry & freezer, youth tutoring, technology support for kāumatua, and regular cup‑of‑tea mornings where neighbours can simply be together.

Tinopai Wharf Rebuild

The Tinopai Wharf is more than infrastructure — it is a gathering place, a fishing spot, and a living link to the Kaipara. The Trust is leading the working group for its restoration, coordinating with local authorities and seeking regional and national funding to rebuild it for future generations of fishers, whānau, and visitors.

Marina & Reserve

Reclaiming a forgotten corner

The marina and reserve have been left unloved for too long. We are reviewing how this space could become an asset for the community — an exercise area, a restored marina for boat use, and a beautified taiao. Our goal is to clear hazards, protect the environment, and bring this place back into the heart of village life.
